In June 2020, a dream in which I had short hair influenced me to chop off over 12 inches of hair. What began as a 2AM split decision bloomed into a symbol of my severance from heteronormativity. It was a change I wanted for a long while, but did not act on out of fear of appearing less “feminine” or “straight”. Cutting my hair paved a road of self expression, and since then, I have only become more secure in my identity. In this piece, I visualized introspection, the absurdity of a dream, and my acceptance of my sexuality.
